Shark Bait - Episode 812

Shark Tank Season 8's, Episode 12 features a company update on Drain Strain.  In addition, it features pitches PDX Pet Design, Basic Outfitters, Victory Coffees and Naturally Perfect Dolls.  The episode aired on Friday, January 6, 2017.

DRAIN STRAIN

The Drain Strain® is a bathroom sink drain stopper that prevents clogged drains and valuables from getting lost down your sink.

Naushad Ali teamed up with Robert in Episode 616 with a investment of $110,000 for 10% of his company.

Their product is now in hundreds of Home Depot and Lowe's stores!

A pair of United States patents protects the product.  US Patent No. 9,371,616 and US Patent No. 8,590,065 both titled Drain Strainer.

Also, the name Drain Strain is a registered trademark (see US Reg. No. 4,792,215).

PDX Pet Design

Tara and Jason O’Mara pitch their cat toy business.  Their  SHRU, a self-described “cat companion.”  It retails on for $119.00 and their sales to date have been impressive.

They have another product, the Licki Brush, now available for purchase.

$24.99

There is likely patent protection for SHRU and design patent protection for Licki Brush.  In addition, both SHRU and Licki Brush have common law trademark protection.

Unfortunately for the couple, the Shark's pass on the opportunity concluding that $300,000 for 15% equity is simply too big an investment.  Mark suggested that a $50,000 investment for 20% would have been an appropriate "flyer."

Basic Outfitters

The Dweck's pitch their underware solution "Create a Drawer" enabling men to scrape their underwear drawer and start new. For $60.00 you can purchase a drawer with three pairs of briefs, 8 pairs of socks, three t-shirts and a "wild card" item.

The Shark's are stunned that the Dweck's have only 25% of equity in the company.  Although Lori and Kevin would have closed a deal with the Dweck's, the Shark's concluded that there wasn't enough equity in the company.

Victory Coffees

Former Navy Seal sniper Cade Courtley tried to enlist the Sharks with Victory Coffees.  Cade started Victory Coffees in March, 2015, with a nostalgic, 1940’s era branding strategy and a subscription delivery model.

His flavors have a Rosie the Riveter-like logo. The website is loaded with vintage military photos, too.  Victory Coffees has not pursued registering any trademarks at this time.  Instead, Victory Coffees indicates their common law trademark rights using a (tm).

Unfortunately, Courtley walked away without a deal.

Naturally Perfect Dolls

Jason and Angelica Sweeting made a deal with Daymond for Naturally Perfect.  The Sweetings made a line of dolls created for multicultural girls.

Naturally Perfect Dolls, LLC invested in two registered trademarks:  US Reg. 5,069,582 for Naturally Perfect and US Reg. 5,046,541 for Angelica.
